How can I get my laundry sink to drain?
More Info
My husband put some tomato soup down the garbage disposal in the kitchen. After running the disposal, the laundry sink (in the garage) filled with tomato soupy water. It drained fine overnight. However, I ran a small load of laundry today and the sink would not drain out the laundry water. The washing machine still has a bit of water in it as well.
I’m assuming the disposal has a clog that is connected to the sink, but I’m not sure of the best way to clear it. It’s an old house (built in the late 60s/early 70s) and the washing machine has a tube that drains into the sink next to it. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

If it is affecting all your sinks, and it sounds like it is, it is the main drain. Call a roto-router service. The laundry sink is probably the lowest fixture and the water is taking the path of least resistance (which should be the main drain) and that is why stuff from the kitchen and washing machine are finding there way there..
I think most drain cleaners on the market poured into your washers drain sink should work well. The drain must have been partially clogged prior to dumping tomato soup in the gar. disposal. Just follow the instructions on the container.Good Luck.
I WOULD SIMPLY PUT A BUCKET UNDER THE LAUNDRY TUB TRAP..UNSCREW THE TRAP AND CLEAN IT OUT. NO NEED TO GO BUY A SNAKE AND RISK GETTING IT STUCK IN THE PLASTIC PVC . IF YOU CAN UNTIGHTEN SOMETHING..AND TIGHTEN BACK UP AGAIN..THIS IS A JOB U CAN DO.
THE SAME GOES FOR THE KITCHEN SINK.
THEN U CAN ELIMINATE THAT IF IT’S NOT THE PROBLEM AND YOU WILL KNOW ITS FURTHER DOWN THE LINE.
If you have a septic system you could be in trouble. If not try pouring some clorox in the laundry sink drain and letting it sit, it could be clogged with lint–run some water and wear some old clothes for splashes of clorox and plunge the sink. Hope this works for you–clorox will eat hair clogs and not kill your old pipes.
Take a manual plumbing snake and run it through the line. It’s probably just a buildup of stuff that needs to knocked loose. You can find a snake for less than $10 at your local hardware store.
