DunbarPlumbingForums.com NORTHERN KENTUCKY PLUMBERS The video shows firsthand how plumbers putty can break down over a short period of time and cause leaks at connecions that need to stay waterproof. Putty can also cause problems with synthetic marble or granite, plastic or composite whereby the oil base of plumbers putty can slowly leach into the sink’s surface and cause issues with staining or material breakdown. Often, plumbers will recommend a “new” type of plumbers putty that is not damaging to the above type of sinks. Too often with both products, the material hardens over a short time and does not perform the function that the product should provide, at least as long as the disposal/strainer or any other type of installation is involved. For some areas across the nation and the globe, plumbers putty is a code requirement. Proper amounts of putty when used is crucial, most times issues arise from using too much putty which can cause leaks over time. We welcome any questions or opinions on this video, we are sure that people will argue the benefits of putty as it is a hotly debated topic on plumbing forums across the internet. Dunbar Plumbing for a number of years used plumbers putty but the reasonable choice these days for reliability is silicone sealant. A product that withstands aging quite well and is resistant to water simply by it’s chemical makeup. Contact Dunbar Plumbing @ 859-359-4833 to schedule …
To my question by what means the trap is connected to the kitchen sink a have four possible answer A)gasket,B) basket strainer,C)drain adapter and D)trap mount. I’m Looking for best answer.thank you.
i replaced the basket strainer and the locknut is plastic. i tightened down as much as i could by hand but the way the strainer was designed it doesn’t look like it will go flush with the sink. the angle is a little different so there is a tiny grove where food could get caught but there aren’t any leaks. it’s a double sink. also now if i push down in the middle between the two sinks it seems to give on the edge where the faucet is. is this normal? i didn’t pay too much attention to it before.
it’s a cheap basket strainer i guess. the top is steal and the rest is abs plastic. i wasn’t sure if i should use a wrench on it because it’s plastic.
and i used the plumbers putty but it the lip isn’t flush with the sink groove. it has a slight gap but there is no leak. it’s just angled a little more higher than the last one. the last one had a lip that was thinner and more like an L shape than this one. this one tapers off.
I used to have this flat strainer with a handle. When I went to pour out pasta, I just held it against the pot and tilted it against it over the sink. It was plastic. It was shapped like a half-circle.
Does anyone know where I can get one or what they’re called? I can’t even find one on eBay.
but the part that the first pipe screws into when you unscrew it it looks almost like a strainer or is it like a built in strainer its the thing that stops the sink from having a big hole in it i guess to stop the food from going down the pipes?
Thanks in Advance
Because he had to unclog the bathtub and instead of putting bleach in the toilet to sterilize it, he put it in your kitchen sink, next to all your freshly wash dishes gleaming away in the strainer… Because I flipped the **** out and told him he had to sterilize my sink and rewash all my dishes with bleach but he won’t and he called me stupid like I’m being petty about it. Am I being petty? Because I think it’s sick.
Magic Plumbing’s Dynamo Dave visits sf’s Tortilla Heights to replace basket strainers on their 3-compartment sink.
I have gotten everything done except adding the tailpiece washer and slip nut. There is already a plastic nut on the pipe. It goes on fine if the washer is not in. It won’t fit if I put in the washer. Q1: Is it ok if I leave the plastic nut or do I have to take that off and add the metal one that came with the basket strainer? Q2: Can I leave out the tailpiece washer? What might happen if I do? Q3: The washer will fit if I put it in upside down. Which is better, to leave the washer out or to put it in upside down or neither?
It’s like a strainer. It has holes to let the water out, but keeps the spoons, forks, knives, etc. inside.
It fits right in the corner of the sink. Anyone know where to get one of these things??
