Hello!
My husband & I are ready to just call a plumber but I thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask here…
The water pressure on our kitchen sink (faucet AND sprayer) has been steadily declining for a few months. It’s almost down to a trickle now. The rest of the house seems fine. We have very hard water, so we knew to check the strainer(?) on the end of the faucet for buildup, it is clear. Strangely, it also seems like it takes that sink much longer to get hot. Is that possible?
Is there anything else we should check? Do we just need a new kitchen sink? (That wouldn’t break my heart.. Then I could pick one out that I like better!)
Thanks in advance for your help!
Wow thanks so much.. You all have already been a huge help. It does make sense now that it would be something in the faucet & not an individual line since both hot & cold are low.
I’ll talk to my husband.. Thankfully he is very skilled with tools & home repair so he should be able to handle switching out a faucet. He’s never done it before but he’ll figure it out.
And we do need to look into a water softener for the whole house. I HATE all the crap that hard water leaves everywhere. Never knew what a pain it was until we moved here.
Aright this time we have a drain that’s draining slow on a bath sink And were going to put a little water in here Now were letting the water drain out notice how slow the water drains out Ok what were going to do were going to take that pop up out P trap and were going to clean that drain out First of all were going to get a bucket to catch the water from the drain Now right here were going to remove the pop up lever that pushes the plug up and down This way this will release the plug so that we can pull it up and out And pull out any trash or hair like this up out of there And let me tell you 85 percent of the time when the plumber comes to the house to unclog your bath sink this is all there doing In most cases there is know need to run a cable And know were just going to do a little extra And make sure that the p trap is not full with hair Ok that not to bad but you can see the hair was starting to get down in the drain And here were taking a hanger and pushing some tissue through So that we can clean the drain out completely See the rest of it just came out the other end here Now that we clean it out pretty good Now it’s time to start putting things back together starting with the p trap here Just cleaning a little bit of the hair off the lever to the pop up And As I put the pop up lever in I’m holding the plug up top you can’t see right now Ok now see this one drain much faster now

If you have to take your trap apart anyway underneath your sink for any reason, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to clean it. You’d be surprised at how much stuff actually gets trapped in a sink drain that isn’t clean or free of debris. We are renters and keep having plumbing problem. Toilets keep getting stopped up, sinks drain into the bathtubs, water coming up from various drains. Anyway plumber said it’s roots and did some sort of quick fix but is there a chemical or something that will eat the roots or whatever else may be building up in the pipes?
Please don’t say that it’s the owner’s/landlord’s job because I know that and that’s a whole other question.
